What qualifications do you hold?
I am a fully qualified farrier, with additional qualifications in equine management and blacksmithing. I am also a fully qualified barefoot specialist and was the only farrier in the UK to pass this exam in my year.
What services do you offer?
I provide standard horse shoeing, remedial farriery for soundness and lameness issues, and specialist barefoot trimming. All work is tailored to the individual horse and its needs.
What areas do you cover?
I am based in Horwich and cover all of Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. If you are unsure whether I cover your area, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to advise.
How quickly can you get to me?
Appointment availability depends on location and workload. I aim to respond as quickly as possible and will always do my best to accommodate urgent or welfare-related cases where I can.
What is the best way to contact you?
The best way to contact me is via phone call. Voicemail messages are checked regularly and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Texts might get lost, please phone!
Do you work with vets and other equine professionals?
Yes. I am happy to work alongside vets, physiotherapists and other equine professionals when remedial or corrective work is required, ensuring the best outcome for the horse.
Do you work with all types of horses?
Yes. I have experience working with all types of horses, including leisure, competition, working and heavy horses. No horse is too big or too small.
Can you make or adapt shoes specifically for my horse?
Yes. As a trained blacksmith, I am confident forging shoes from scratch or adapting shoes to suit the horse’s individual conformation, movement and requirements.
How often does my horse need shoeing or trimming?
This varies depending on the horse, workload and whether they are shod or barefoot. Most horses are seen every [6–8] weeks, but this will be discussed and tailored to your horse.
Do you offer advice on hoof care between visits?
Yes. I’m always happy to offer practical advice on hoof care, maintenance and management between visits to help support your horse’s long-term soundness.
